i’ve seen lots on this. yesterday the couch crew on FOX went off on it because berets are French. they later issued an apology after it was pointed out to them on Twitter there’s a group of elite U.S. soldiers…The Green Beret and they wear berets.
personally i think the U.S. Olympic team uniforms should be made in the U.S. but filling in for Chris Matthews on Hardball, Michael Smerconish said he woke up this morning thinking about the issue. he noted the clothes he put on:
an Izod shirt designed in France and made in Peru
shoes made in Italy
boxers made in China
i think he said his sport jacket was made in France and i forget if he said where his pants were made but nothing he wore today was made in the U.S.A.
i saw humor in what he said but it’s true. i’m guessing not many of us buy clothes made only in the U.S.A. Smerconish’s idea is the athletes should wear uniforms in which parts are made from all over the world to reflect a global economy. he also pointed out anyone who doesn’t like that the uniforms were made abroad should throw out their iPods. i don’t necessarily agree with his point but it was thoughtful. i’d rather the uniforms were made in the U.S.
